Communities where Bitcoin is money, not an investment. People earn it, spend it locally, and save it. No exchanges, no speculation, just sound money working in daily life. This is a living directory of those communities, starting with Ghana.

What a Bitcoin Circular Economy Actually Is

The model was built by Bitcoin Beach in El Zonte, El Salvador: anchor a community with Bitcoin education, onboard a handful of merchants, reward youth participation in sats, and let value circulate locally instead of cashing out at every step. The Lightning Network makes it practical. Transactions settle in seconds for near-zero fees.

In Africa, this matters for concrete reasons. Naira lost over 70% of its value between 2022 and 2025. The cedi dropped 60% in the same window. Cross-border remittances in sub-Saharan Africa cost 8 to 10% on average. Bitcoin fixes the fee problem now via Lightning, and it fixes the debasement problem for anyone willing to hold it.

Agbozume, Volta Region (near Togo border)

One of the clearest Bitcoin Beach-style circular economies in West Africa. Founded by Mawufemor Kofi Folivi, a 20-year community organizer in Agbozume and Managing Director of the Talent Foundation. Started after Kofi attended the Africa Bitcoin Conference in December 2022, inspired in part by Bitcoin Ekasi in South Africa.
